K-Os is a genre bender. He’s got to have all kinds of music colliding onto the same track, and in his latest album, Atlantis- Hymns for Disco, he does just that. “I am trying to be unapologetic about the rules I break,” K-Os reveals. “Most revolutionary art ends up provoking classic ideals and it is these same classic ideals that become prisons if they go unchallenged.”
You’ll know what he means when you listen to the record. There’s something very catchy and refreshing in Atlantis - Hymns for Disco. You’ve got to hand it to K-Os for bringing not only something new, but something so very sweet to the table. The interweaving of pop and funk gives the album its heat and energy.
But it isn’t just about the music for Toronto citizen k-os, but also about the lyrics. In the emotional crescendo of the album, K-Os bares all in a rare and honest track entitled “The Rain.” K-Os explains,“I was surprised by how well I could emote fresh cuts from a situation in the past where I was ruled by a woman. I really thought I was over it. But emotions build up inside and if these remain unattended, they only build up further. ‘The Rain’ is the storm of those unchecked emotions.”
